RESCUE
August 19th 2008We received a call from Marcia a lady from probes saying she had had a injured badger under her shed for a couple of days and could we help. I said yes and got Lucy our driver and my wife Julie to come with me to get this badger. When we arrived we found that the badger was well dug in under the shed and was not reachable from any direction, as she was to far in. So the only way to get her would be to rip up the shed floor. I asked Marcia if this was ok as she was an animal lover she didn't hesitate and got a hammer and chisel and tried to get one of the boards up herself. But this was no good so I took her pick axe and proceeded to rip most of her shed floor up, before I could get the grasper on her. Once I had done this we tried to pull her free from under the last part of the shed. But she was stubborn and did not come out easily, we eventually got her out enough for Lucy to scruff her. We then got her in to our carry basket, once this was done we took her to our vets. Where her serious rump wound was cleaned of a large amount of maggots. Once this was done she was given a pain killing injection and a long lasting antibiotic injection as well. She was also sprayed for fleas and tics, this done she was then taken to our recovery pens. Where she will now stay till the wound heals and then be retuned to the place she came from. So hopefully all will go well with this one as well.Bob.

Last night Saturday14th September, we released the badger that was found under a shed at probus. She had been with us for several weeks suffering from a sevre rump wound that has now healed over very well. So she was ready to go, we arrived at the release site and was meet by the son of the lady that called us to rescue her. He wanted to see her released, we opened the cage and she just sat there for a min, then she was off over a wall and gone with a crash! About a min later there was more crashing and she came back over the wall. We had obviously dropped her at the wrong end of the release site. She was then off across the area till she picked up a familiar scent, then she was gone. She defiantly new where she was going so a good end to another release.Bob
