APRIL 2011
KAY.13th April. Falmouth.
This little vixen was handed into the Rosemullion Vets after being found
alone on a road. The RSPCA kindly delivered her to us at home and as she was
the same size/age as Jay they were introduced for companionship.Jay was
quite horrified by her arrival-he didn't know what she was!A timely reminder
of how easily fox cubs can imprint on humans.Luckily,it didn't take too
long for him to realise that a new 'sister'is more fun than his(well chewed)
teddy bear!Kay refused to feed from a bottle but soon cottoned on to the
art of lapping,so we fed her from a bowl rather than force a bottle on her.

15th April.
With the fox cubs growing quickly and Folly needing the company of wilder
foxes to help her forget human companionship,we accepted the offer of a
place at Secret World. They have the specialist facilities and expertise
to successfully accomplish this.Sue Gear of Born To Be Wild, was to attend
a course there and kindly volunteered to deliver them.We arranged to meet at
Wadebridge where we transferred the three cubs into her care.Sue kept them
overnight before making an early start to Secret World the next day.

DENZIL.21st April Newquay.
Found hiding under a garden shed by the family dog, this badger had holed
up after being wounded in a badger fight.A vet check found his wounds were
quite extensive and badly infected. He was sedated and the damage cleaned
and debrided then packed with a special gel to assist the healing process.
Denzil became a model patient, enjoying the chance to rest and recouperate
while taking advantage of the 'room service'.With antibiotics to clear
infection and pain-killers to keep him comfortable Denzil soon improved
but it took five weeks for the bites to heal completely. At last he was
fit enough to go free and was returned and released.

GONK.30th April. Carnell Lane.
A passing Postie spotted this little hedgehog out during daytime and took
the time to stop to help.It looked as if the hedgehog had a growth on its
side and after making calls to various agencies trying to find some help
for it eventually came to us.As we had space at that time we agreed to take
it in care. The strangest delivery we've had to date!A trip to the vets
found the growth was in fact an abscess which was drained and antibiotic
cover provided. The infection has proved stubborn to clear totally so Gonk
became a long-stay patient while we persevered. Happily, by mid August, Gonk had recovered and finally released.
